From park carols to over 10,000 candles
The Christmas Carols originally staged within Pukekura Park by Youth For Christ began more than twenty years before the Bowl era, drawing bigger crowds to the festive outing every year until a larger venue had to be found.
With the backing of the New Plymouth Brass Band, Christmas at the Bowl held its inaugural production at the Bowl of Brooklands in 1997, and it has been a fixture of the Taranaki summer ever since.
The Christmas at the Bowl Trust was formed in 2003 to look after the ongoing financial administration of the event. An organising committee forms each year to work with the Artistic Director and make sure every part of the show is catered for.
The driving aim has never changed: an event focused on the spirit of Christmas, where families can enjoy a night out at an expensive time of year for just a gold coin donation.
